Greetings from the Tactical Operations Clan. We wish, as a group, to make a public statement. After playing the original StarCraft to its furthest ends for many years, we had highly anticipated the release of the sequel. However, after its release, and after having nothing but problems with the installer, and the inability to play the game unless you connect to battle.net, the clan has decided to boycott the game.
We may further boycott Blizzard games all together, depending on the release of Diablo 3. If it is in the same fashion, such that it cannot be played in any mode without connecting to Battle.net we will completely boycott Blizzard all together.
Its a tragedy to see Blizzard/Activision take the highest selling game of all time and pervert the second version so badly. In fact many of our members feel the play action is almost identical to Brood Wars, which was a complete flop.
Anyone want to buy StarCraft II disks? Only played a few times, never dropped. $40.

Why do you suppose Blizzard isn't including LAN. Do you really think it is just about piracy? Is it a control thing, or are they trying to make more money?
Though stat tracking is nice, I'd be okay with no fancy stats for LAN games.

Well, you do know that some people will not buy a game which they are not sure of yeah? that is why people will want to test play it first and try out how it feels like to play with others.
Disabling LAN function will keep customers with poor internet connection (there is tons of them) which will indirectly lower the amount of people playing Starcraft 2 which also equals to less popularity.
Besides, if you want people to support the game, disabling LAN function is really encouraging me to get a pirated copy as there is PRACTICALLY NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PIRATED AND ORIGINAL COPY!!! (for those with poor internet connections like me :( ) as people will be only playing the campaign and skirmish

This is one of the reasons why games tend to be pirated due to selfishness and greed for money. The game is damn expensive then you can't even share it even at home. I'd rather buy the pirated version if I can't even play with my kids...

Blizzard,
I could pine on and on about all the reasons why you should include LAN. Even now that the game has been released, you could add this functionality via a patch. But here is the most important reason... There are 7 people in my home who have been loyal customers of yours for years. We WILL NOT purchase the game from you without this functionality. Period, end of discussion.
I don't care if you give me all three races for $60 dollars total, if it doesn't have LAN, then I DON'T WANT IT. There are plenty of other games out there to choose from, we don't need you, you need us.

It took blizzard 12 years to finally release this title. I wonder how long people had to wait in line at the midnight release.

We're not a minority. Screw Blizzard, I see another troika or EA in the making. Douches. I can even deal with the activation, although I guarantee this is just to force people to end up re-purchasing the game several times. We all know the copy protection is only going to keep the legal flavor of the game from working. Screw Blizzard. I stop buying games from EA for this reason. Now, I wont be getting any more blizzard either. Supreme Commander 2 is out also, seems really nice too. BTW, the whole killing 320,000 bnet account doesn't smell in the slightest like an attempt to force people to buy another copy or upgrade to this garbage. Not at all. Couldn't be. I haven't played on bnet very much in past years because of the punks and hackers, I only play at home with my wife, and the occasional bnet game. I do understand the need to be strict. The timing and volume, however are too suspect. You people suck. You have seen the last of my money. PS Lets all start an open sores alternative to SC2. We can add lan and everything.

Yeah well what about the hundreds of thousands of us that don't have broadband because we live in rural areas?
I already have a stack of games that I went through the single player campaign and threw in a bin next to beer caps, SC1 and Diablo never made it there because I got my money's worth out of those. I look at all the games I dropped 50 bones on for a single player campaign and think, "Man, that was stupid, why did I spend all that money on these games I never play?" We all do.
Battle.net doesn't do so hot on a mobile broadband card. I realize you don't care, but guess what... that's why we're mad. We know you don't care. You're another giant faceless game company that gives standard answers and crappy excuses for things. Which is why your game is already hacked and there are already russian unlock codes all over the internet.

Sorry Mr Consumer. We don't give a rats ass if this feature, and the lack of that one means that you wasted your hard earned money. A dozen 12 year olds may have tried to steal a copy of the software, so we've decided to f*ck you on the whole deal. If you have a crappy broadband line, as millions do, too bad, no refund. Since our activation is the same bullsh*t method as every other one, we want you to take comfort in knowing that when that multicore board cooks itself and you have to re-install, you'll be contributing to my 8th porsche. Thanks for the money, genius, and the years of support.
Sincerely Rob Pardo - Douche of Squirt Design @ Jizzard

So if I buy two copies, one for each machine in my house..I can't play LAN? I can't play overseas? I can't log into the 2nd machine and play my account because the local data key won't match the B.net key? WTF?!?! They are insane? Did microsoft buy them out? I've seen this kind of min requirement package before too. It will look like untextured poo figures on a single core XP machine, and won't look like the ads without a 5 core, windows 7 with 8 gigs of RAM, and twin crossfire 1 gig vid cards. The more I'm discovering the more disappointment I feel. Any word on Diablo 3? activation, no LAN. I got $1 that says they already have the expansion pack going, but wont release it for 9 months so they can charge $45 for it. I have been looking forward to this for so long, and Im already super bummed, and I won't be getting SC2 or d3 now. Bastards.

Anti Piracy? Stats? Horse Manure. Here is the thing with piracy. 70+% of it isn't piracy. It's warped and scratched cds. Its being forced to re-activate a product over and over again due to bad ram, a botched install, and having the key spoil. Then there are the TOEE issues, the never been patched games like sacred. I have bought 2 copies of the Diablo chest, a couple of starcraft, for these reasons. The pirates will find a way around this, so the only people blizzard just screwed are those of us that spend our hard earned money on crap software that we can't even return. And the worst part is, we find out after we upgrade our machines for $400 worth of parts, upgrade an OS because the producers were so stupid they didn't realize that making it run for xp it would have still run on the latter windows but not vice versa. And when we finally get it installed? It's a useless $50 coaster that cost us $700 to learn was crap. In blizzards case I cant even wait for the game to hit the $5 bin, nope. It will be a $50 game, and then a $50 battle chest. I think im just done with blizzard. They have completely fallen.

Give it a year or two and somebody clever will crack the game and somehow add LAN support, probably by running a fake or simulated Battlenet server off a home computer using python or something. We've all seen it before amirite?. Forget the petitions, Blizzard wants the moneys, and they surely deserve it, but what they are actually doing is ensuring piracy, because when somebody figures it out and makes an awesome cracked LAN copy, anyone interested (practically everyone) will pirate said awesome copy. It doesn't matter what steps Blizzard takes to prevent it either, if you release an incomplete game that is this anticipated, somebody is gonna fix it for you. Its actually just unfair to people in parts of the world without broadband internet. Hell, even people who live in small towns that share an internet connection with their neighbors are screwed. Its ironic that a company that prides itself on never releasing a game until its 100% ready is leaving out what was such a vital piece of the original game. I don't know about you guys, but I haven't been on starcraft 1's Battlenet in 10 years, or played the campaign either, but do I still beak out the game every couple of months to play LAN with some friends? Hell yes. LAN is definitely the most long lived part of starcraft 1(by like a decade), removing it is fail.

Absolutely right.
No one wants to get on the battle.net server and get pwned over and over again by Korean kids who spend 16 hours a day on there running the same rush strategy over and over and over again.
And really, is anyone playing the single player campaign more than once? MAYBE twice if they're froggy?

Blizzard are being a bunch of retards for not including the LAN functions as that is where alot of people end up playing RTS type games the most as us here in South Africa don't have such high speed internet access as our fastest ADLS line is only sitting at 4MBs which is nothing. So we would rather play games like this at a LAN. And also there isn't really a way to stop piracy as someone out there will eventually crack the game no matter how hard the game developers try to make things harder for those who hack a game .So if Blizzard wants me to consider selling this product also at my computer shop they better reconsider adding the LAN option otherwise l will refuse to sell a game not worthy to be sold even though lm a Star Craft fan myself
